There’re a lot of good audiobooks for entrepreneurs out there about starting a business, so choosing the right one to listen to can be a bit daunting and time-consuming. I have discovered several great titles that are worth the listen, so I wanted to offer those looking for an entrepreneurial boost a list of my top picks.
In no particular order, here’s my list of the 6 best audiobooks for entrepreneurs:
Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win
Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, both ex-Navy SEALs, share their advice on taking responsibility for your decisions, without making excuses. Their no-nonsense and disciplined approach to leadership is a motivating call to action. I highly recommend this audiobook for anyone wanting to instill a winning mindset in yourself and your organization.
Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the Creator of Nike
Phil Knight, the founder of Nike, tells his intriguing story about starting a company in a new industry (at the time). The incredible success of Nike began from humble origins, grew with enormous ingenuity, and continues to be an iconic global brand due to its visionary leader who sparked a revolution in sportswear. If you’re looking for a truly inspiring tale of the ascent of one of the world’s most recognizable companies, I would give this audiobook a listen.
Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future
Elon Musk is known for starting several multi-billion dollar companies, from PayPal to Tesla to SpaceX. His ambition seemingly has no limits, as he boldly continues to shoot for the stars, literally. Arguably the world’s most innovative thinker of our day, Musk’s journey has been filled with triumph, tribulation, and a relentless passion to improve the future of mankind.
The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
Charles Duhigg, an award-winning business reporter, highlights the small things that make a dramatic difference in our routines with, The Power of Habit. He explains in very straightforward language that changing your habits will change your life. This audiobook has had a profound influence on my daily productivity and I think it’s a must-read for those wanting to become more efficient and effective.
The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It
Michael Gerber gives a step-by-step guide for starting a business in the form of a story that brings attention to the falsehoods that many new companies face from inception to maturity. He details the common oversights of budding business owners and offers a seasoned perspective on ways to successfully avoid such downfalls. I enjoyed the conversational format Gerber uses to express the lessons entailed in The E-Myth Revisited, which are both engaging and relatable. This one certainly earns its place here on the list of best audiobooks for entrepreneurs.
Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup
John Carreyrou’s Bad Blood is essentially a “what not to do when starting a business” tutorial, covering the infamous biotech startup company, Theranos. The fraudulently masterminded company created by Elizabeth Holmes once held a multi-billion dollar valuation and has become one of the most notorious scandals in corporate history. Check this audiobook out for a wild story of over-promising and under-delivering.
